In March 2016 we created the BIKE channel website, which includes a custom TV Guide, a categorised programme section, news and blog, plus the ability to display stunning, fully responsive imagery, videos and even live streaming…
A powerful design to accommodate powerful imagery
BIKE channel wanted the new website to captivate the audience. Their image library includes photography from the greatest names in the bike world, including Russell Burton… So we decided it was important for the website to have a means of displaying big images from the moment the visitor landed on the home page. And thanks to our fast-loading web code, there is no risk of these images taking to long to load, despite the fact that they’re HD resolution images…
Unique web design features
BIKE channel produce an EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) every month which is used to feed data to Sky and Virgin. We were able to create a custom TV Guide feature that pulls this data feed in and automatically displays the programme listings on the website, without the need for any administration.
The TV Guide contains a date slider (which is of course touch screen friendly), allowing the user to easily cross-navigate between dates. The guide then features a full chronological list of all programmes for the date selected. Then when the user has found a programme of interest, they can select it to read a short intro about the programme.
The user can then choose to ‘view more’, taking them to a programme detail page, which contains further information on the selected programme, including stories, embedded video, imagery, and even live streaming. The live streaming automatically activates and deactivates in sync with the TV Guide:
Fast loading, mobile friendly web pages
We’re proud to say that even with double size images (which look stunning on retina displays) and Scaleable Vector Graphics (SVGs) for the BIKE, Sky and Virgin logos, and embedded videos, this website still loads extremely fast. Here are the Google Page Speed Insights scores:
- Page speed on mobile: 89%
- Page speed on desktop: 96%
- User experience score: 96%
