So you’ve got a WordPress website and something isn’t quite right… Maybe a number of things aren’t quite right… or perhaps even lots of things are all kinds of wrong! Rest assured, we are experts when it comes to WordPress website support, so we’re likely to be able to find a solution to the issues you’re experiencing.

Why do you need WordPress website support?
No matter how well built your WordPress website was when it was originally created, tech on the web isn’t known for being future-proof; it’s an ever-changing landscape. Websites need maintenance, just like cars, lawnmowers, washing machines, etc.
Here are some potential reasons behind broken website features:
WordPress updates have not been installed
It’s important to ensure WordPress updates are installed as they’re released, as these often include fixes to support updates to web browsers. Read more about WordPress updates here.
WordPress updates have been installed but not tested
Some updates to WordPress can cause parts of a website to break, so it’s important that updates are tested prior to making them live. This is really the job of an experienced WordPress developer.
A plug-in has not been updated
In the same way as WordPress updates, plug-in updates need to be installed to keep them functioning correctly.
A plug-in is no longer supported by the developers who created it
Plug-ins need to be kept up-to-date by their authors to ensure they continue to function with new updates to web browsers and WordPress itself. Some developers can cease support to their plug-ins for various reasons which can result in a broken feature.
A web browser update has caused an issue with a feature of the website
A web browser update can break a plug-in or any other feature of a website, so it’s very important that websites are tested on a regular basis across all major web browsers to ensure they’re looking and functioning as they should do.
There is an HTML or a styling conflict
Sometimes if you paste content in to a page on your WordPress website without choosing the ‘paste without formatting’ option, the page can inherit HTML from the source that the content was copied from. The result is that the thing you pasted into the page can look different to how you expected it to.
A piece of embedded content (like an image) is the wrong format
This could be file type, file size, or even a corruption during upload.
Fallen asleep yet?
This list goes on; PHP issues, hosting errors, cookie conflicts, malware, performance, code bloat and so on. The point is, you need a decent website support partner.

How can we help fix your WordPress website?
Once we’ve been made aware of the issue(s) you’re having we can investigate them by looking at the website’s code in detail. We usually refer to this as “looking under the bonnet” of the website. We don’t normally need any logins to the website or hosting control panel to identify the cause of a problem and in many cases it can be very easy for us to identify what’s going on.
In normal circumstances you will have a good relationship with an experienced WordPress website developer or web development company, who will be responsible for maintaining the website. For various reasons this isn’t always the case; some relationships simply don’t exist, some developers move on and sometimes clients need to look elsewhere for support as the people responsible for looking after the site haven’t been doing their job properly…!
So assuming you don’t have a developer to call on, we can step in and assist. Once we’ve identified the cause, we will be able to tell you what’s involved to fix it along with a breakdown of the costs. Depending on the severity of the issues it may be necessary for us to take a copy of the site and fix it offline, before copying the fixes back into the live site. But in many cases simple fixes can be carried out on the live website.

How much does WordPress website support cost?
It is best practice for website support to be carried out by whoever hosts and maintains the site, and we offer a service called Managed WordPress Hosting for this.
Many website support requests will be covered by your managed hosting fees, whereas others are chargeable separately. The costs in our industry vary widely but we like to think we stay competitive whilst delivering a best-in-class service. Our fees reflect the complexity of the site and how many hours are subsequently required to maintain it.
The least complex sites require a minumum of 2 hours of time each month, for which we charge £220 per month, whereas more complex sites can require a number of days allocated each month. For support requests that aren’t covered by your day-to-day maintenance fees, we charge £110 per hour.
