Community Health Impact Coalition website

In partnership with branding agency, Mighty Ally, who refined and rebranded the Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC), we are proud to launch their new website. CHIC are on a mission to overcome the systemic barriers devaluing the global community of healthcare workers, an integral workforce of people who are consistently unsupervised, unequipped and unpaid – 70% of whom are women.

Supported by a great number of funders and partners, such as the W.H.O, UN Women and UNICEF, this non-profit resonated with us so deeply as a company, that we decided to offer a donation of our expertise in support of their initiatives.

This design had to be impactfully bold, powerful and intentional, but crucially, it had to represent the compassion at the heart of the organisation. We explored balance through compelling layouts and complimentary placement of typography, backing up the strong brand identity that had been created.

Subtle Animations

On site load, you’re welcomed by the foundations of this design – bold typography drawing you to the mission of the charity. Starting with the intro text on the home page, we wanted to ensure the site felt interactive but didn’t distract from the mission. We integrated subtle animated elements throughout the site where we felt that motion belonged. As you scroll, minor movements continue intrinsically down the page without affecting page load speed.

On the Wins page, an integrated interactive policy dashboard highlights the key areas supported by CHIC. Another collaborative aspect of this project, we worked with MIT Alumni Association to install the API with the brand’s colour palette and typography, to ensure it fitted with the site’s styles.

Being such a hugely global site, we ensured the text was accessible in other languages, as well as editable for the future of the charity. We utilised a powerful tool called WEGLOT to provide the multilingual element, as it allows edits to continue even after the automatic translation of the entire site is made – a key feature to this build.

Gutenburg Block Editor

A layout like no other with variety on every page, this was the perfect design for the Gutenberg Block Editor. The design works hard to reflect and emphasise the story of this phenomenal organisation – endeavouring to help those in healthcare impacted by social and economic systems. We built 21 individual custom ACF blocks for this site, each with a specific purpose.

Compelling text layouts

One of the advantages of creating custom blocks is that website editors are able to creatively position text on the page in a variety of ways without loads of confusing options or performance hits.

These are two notable differences between opting for a custom WordPress build instead an off-the-shelf template with a front-end ‘page builder’.

Striking Typography

This dynamic site is full of striking typography. We love the visual hierarchy that comes from the condensed sans serif Anton Bold with the traditional serif, Playfair – it offers a beautiful juxtaposition between contemporary and classical. Helvetica Neue Bold (upper case) fills the gaps of taglines, citations and navigation.

Fluid responsive

The whole site is of course fluid responsive, correctly presenting the content to the visitor based on the exact size of their display.

Displaying pull out text alongside split text, injecting different brand colours into important headings, livening up pages with modular units and media objects… This design was full of playful elements only possible with the block editor. We’ve felt drawn towards the Gutenberg block editor for a while and are pleased to have been able to successfully implement it here. Check out the fresh CHIC site here.
