Why is my WordPress website broken after an update?

Can a WordPress update break my website even if I install it?
Yes. Installing an update isn’t the same as testing it. Some WordPress updates can break parts of a site that were working perfectly well before, which is why updates should be tested before they go live. This is really the job of an experienced WordPress developer.
Why has a plugin stopped working on my site?
Usually because it hasn’t been updated. Plugins need regular updates to keep functioning correctly, in the same way WordPress core does. An outdated plugin is one of the quickest ways for a feature to quietly break.

How can we help fix your WordPress website?
Once we’ve been made aware of the issue(s) you’re having we can investigate them by looking at the website’s code in detail. We usually refer to this as “looking under the bonnet” of the website. We will usually need logins to the website or hosting control panel to identify the cause of a problem and in many cases it can be very quick for us to determine what’s going on.
In normal circumstances you will have a good relationship with an experienced WordPress website developer or web development company, who will be responsible for maintaining the website. For various reasons this isn’t always the case; some relationships simply don’t exist, some developers move on and sometimes clients need to look elsewhere for support as the people responsible for looking after the site haven’t been doing their job properly…!
So assuming you don’t have a developer to call on, we can step in and assist. Once we’ve identified the cause, we will be able to tell you what’s involved to fix it along with a breakdown of the costs. Depending on the severity of the issues it may be necessary for us to take a copy of the site and fix it offline, before copying the fixes back into the live site. But in many cases simple fixes can be carried out on the live website.

Many website support requests will be covered by your managed hosting fees, whereas others are chargeable separately. The costs in our industry vary widely but we like to think we stay competitive whilst delivering a best-in-class service. Our fees reflect the complexity of the site and how many hours are subsequently required to maintain it.
Our hosting & maintenance retainers start at £220 per month. For support requests that aren’t covered by your day-to-day maintenance fees, we charge £110 per hour.
